Thought Drops – Tuesday’s Child

oh, rats
Remember that saying? I don’ t know if it’s popular today – Monday’s child is fair of face, Tuesday’s child is full of grace, Wednesday’s child… well, it was very important to me, when I was a child, not to have been born on Wednesday because I so didn’t want to be full of woe. Of course I didn’t realize then that we are all Wednesday’s children at one time or another.
Whoever wrote that little ditty really didn’t like the middle of the week (Wednesday OR Thursday), but there was no reason for them to take out their humpday frustrations on little children.
I’m pretty sure Judge Sotomayor has heard all the stuff being said about her by the Republicans, and more, over the years as a woman, and a Latina, forging her way into spaces commonly thought (then and now) to be the provinces of those of certain privilege. Still, it’s gotta be hurtful.
Republicans are salivating in anticipation for her to be slapped back by the current Supreme Court as or before she is confirmed (which seems pretty much a foregone conclusion) on the Ricci case – another foregone conclusion in their minds. If, however, the case was decided on the law, as various lawyers and law watchers have said, I hope the court affirms the appellate court’s decision just to freak them (right wingers) out.
The murder of Dr. Tiller has set the forced birth groups a bit back on their heels – which is a good thing – but in addition to spawning discussions of abortion and choice and safety, it also seems to be heating up a few of the wars about religion or against religion. I am not so sure that’s a good thing. I am not a believer and have scant respect for any religion but I have learned to separate the individually religious, who are sometimes really great, from the religion itself, which is often really not.
There are many organizations being mentioned for people to donate money and time to, to honor Dr. Tiller’s memory – the one that caught my eye is Medical Students for Choice.
Time to flood the zone.
The art at the top was apparently done by a rat (although I’m fairly certain that someone with hands helped it out a bit). More rat paw art to be found here.
